How to Stay Grounded Through the Holiday Season

Family Stress at the Holidays

The holidays can be beautiful, meaningful, and… a lot. Between family dynamics, packed schedules, and the pressure to “make everything perfect,” it’s easy to lose your sense of center. On a recent episode of Shrinks on Tap, Dr. Lauren Fisher and Dr. Eleni Boosalis shared some simple practices to help you move through the season with more intention and less overwhelm.

One of the biggest gifts you can give yourself is pausing long enough to notice. Notice the warmth of a good meal, the relief of being off work, the comfort of being around people who care for you. Small moments of gratitude have a real impact on your nervous system.

As Eleni says: “Go with intention. Release perfection. Notice your body, breathe, and ground. Set limits on your time.”
And Lauren reminds us that giving yourself credit matters more than you think.

If you know the holidays tend to drain you, build in some aftercare. Take a day to decompress. Call a friend. Spend time with your primary support system. Let your body settle. Having a plan—an anchor—can help you feel less out of control and more empowered through the season.

And here’s a beautiful truth:
When you’re healing, you’re also healing the people around you. They might not recognize it right away, but your calm supports the whole system.

So this year, pause. Recalibrate. Ground.
Choose what feels right for you.

Happy Holidays from Shrinks on Tap.
We’ll see you on the next episode. 🍷✨
